The oldest and greatest carnival in mainland Spain, dating back to the 16th century and the most eagerly awaited event of Cadiz will take place from the 20th February until the 1st March this year.
Many compare the event to the famous Rio Carnival, with just as much music and vivacity. Expect street shows, gastronomy, fireworks and dance all encompassed in a buzzing atmosphere and wonderful Spanish cultural experience for locals and visitors alike. However, satirical sketches often ridiculing political figures performed by groups known as Chirigotas set the Cadiz Carnival apart from its competition.
The festival prides itself on participating, not spectating, so prepare to dress up to the nines and get involved!
